Hundreds of brethren and sisters accompanied by Juniors paraded
around the town of Corby for the English Midlands Provincial
parade.
The parade was attended by lodges from all over including
Northern Ireland, many bringing bands with them.
Also present was a new lodge from Blackpool with its own
flute band.
Platform speakers gave rousing heartwarming speeches in the
old-time Protestant tradition and closed with a Bible reading
and prayers for all those who make decisions.
After the proceedings the parade returned around Corby whereby
the salute was taken by the officers of the Grand Lodge of
England prior to disbanding and then on to a good old Orange
social in the local community centre.
It was interesting to note that as this large parade passed
a Roman Catholic Church with a wedding entourage of bride
and groom awaiting and watching with smiles and waves which
were returned and no doubt will include the passing colourful
parade as part of their big day.
This was a most pleasant and respectful greeting showing
toleration at its best.
The huge turn-out for the Midlands parade is yet another
indication of expansion of the Orange Order in England with
many lodges reporting new members every month as many see
the Orange as an anchor that sustains the morals that they
hold dear. A calm in a sea of apathy.
It was a delight to see so many juniors and children who
had travelled the long distance throughout the night to attend
the parade and add so much to this colourful pageant. They
are to be congratulated heartily.
