A photographic competition for our members and friends will
be focusing on the Twelfth and events surrounding it.
The competition has been launched through mailings to Lodges
and to public facilities, and will be judged by an independent
panel later this year.
'Orange Focus' is much more than a photographic competition,
however.
The best photographs from the competition will be displayed
as part of a unique exhibition, which will be available to
Lodges and Districts as well as public buildings such as libraries.
And the winner of the competition will have their photograph
featured on a postcard, which can be posted to family and
friends elsewhere to highlight the largest cultural festival
in Northern Ireland.
The competition is being sponsored by the Ulster-Scots Agency,
and by the Community Relations Council, with private sponsors
to date being S.D. Kells and Victor Stewart Enterprises. Further
sponsors are welcome.
There will be prizes for the winners of the competition,
and the event gives the opportunity for anyone with good photographs
of the Twelfth to send them to us as entries.
If you have a photograph or photographs of the Twelfth which
you think are very good and suitable for entry, then don't
delay!
We aim to have the exhibition up and running this summer,
so the deadline for photographic entries is Friday, April
23, 2004.
No entries will be accepted after that date, and the photographs
will be judged in May.
Photographs must be submitted in print form, and should be
a minimum of 8 inches by 6 inches. All entries must be accompanied
by a negative, or transparency of the photograph. All entrants
will be agreeing to the free use of the photograph, if one
of the winners, for an initial print run of a postcard, and
for use in the travelling exhibition.
We will not accept digital photographs for the competition.
We are looking for a variety of themes - photos of Lodges
on parade, of bandsmen and women, interesting photos of individuals,
whether Orangemen or people watching the parades, unusual
photographs and, generally, photographs coveying something
of the festival atmosphere that is the Twelfth.
So why not have a look in your photo albums, and encourage
your friends to do the same?
Your photograph could be the one that wins!
