The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland was represented at the
Holocaust commemoration in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast
in January.
The event marked the horrific loss of life suffered by the
Jewish community in Nazi Germany and elsewhere, and also highlighted
the terrible sufferings of others in countries such as Rwanda
since.
The Grand Lodge was represented by Bro. Tommy Wright, of
Thiepval Memorial L.O.L. No. 1916, at the event.
The Order has praised the event for reminding younger generations
of the evils of Nazism, and the importance of respect for
other cultures and identities. Having many ex-servicemen within
the ranks of Lodges, we are very well aware of the effort
and sacrifice which ensured the winning of freedom in the
Second World War.
