Factfile on Lodge
Name: Templemore True Blues L.O.L. No. 1205
Founded: 1904
W.M. of Lodge: Glynn Clarkson
District: Ballymacarrett, Belfast
Members of Templemore True Blues L.O.L. No. 1205 are looking
forward to marking their centenary later this year, the 25
brethren of the Lodge planning to celebrate the milestone
birthday in October in style.
Style is clearly evident when L.O.L. No. 1205 are on the
road, the members turning out with white shirts, lodge tie,
gloves and a dark suit - dress which is mandatory. The banner
they carry before them has a depictation of the Battle of
Aughrim in 1691 on one side and the bible and Crown on the
other.
As the name of the Lodge suggests, L.O.L. No. 1205 has its
historical roots firmly embedded in East Belfast, although
like a lot of Lodges the membership catchment area has significantly
shifted over the years as their home area has been progressively
redeveloped and families have had to move away.
There are still a number of East Belfast brethren, but members
are also drawn from Bangor, Newtownards, Glengormley and the
Dundonald areas. Longest serving member is Bro. Sam Burns
(PM), who has 34 years service, while over the years the Lodge
has had a strong family connection with a number of brothers
in the ranks; currently there are two sets of brothers, the
Doughterys - Brian and David - and the Miskellys - Sam and
Darren. Youngest member is 18-year-old Bro. Stuart Jones.
"As the population has shifted, so too has the membership
of the Lodge. Currently the membership stands at 25 - perhaps
not a large number in comparison to other Lodges, but the
current membership is mainly made up of PMs who are dedicated,
resolute and determined to ensure that the Lodge will still
be around in another 100 years time," says Bro. William
Welsh, Lodge Secretary.
