The Orange Order has been the focus for a group of Swedish
students visiting Northern Ireland for the first time.
Thirty students and their teachers from the Rudbeck Upper
Secondary School in the Swedish Sollentuna region visited
Schomberg House in Belfast, headquarters of the Orange Order.
The students were addressed by Dr. David Hume, Director of
Services, and David Scott, Community Education Officer, and
were shown around the Order's museum. The Orange officials
explained aspects of the Institution's heritage and culture
to them, and also participated in a question and answer session,
during which many issues and topics were raised.
The teenagers were interested in hearing at firsthand an
Orange perspective on parades and parading as well as how
the Institution saw itself in the future.
The students are all participants in Peace Studies courses
and have been studying the Northern Ireland conflict as part
of their coursework.
