The Junior Orange branch of the Orange 'Family' continues
to progress and to expand with more Lodges being formed, and
existing ones making a considerable impact.
One of the areas where new Junior Lodges have been formed
in recent years is East Antrim, and recently an awards ceremony
was held to mark the first anniversary of two new Junior Orange
Lodges in the area.
Whitehead Junior L.O.L. No. 121, and Carrickfergus Junior
L.O.L. No. 281 were formed last September. Today there is
a combined membership of almost 70.
The prize-giving ceremony was held at Whitehead Rangers Supporters'
Club to recognise members achievements.
Recalling the past 12 months, superintendent Bryan Smyth
said, "Friendships and unique bonds have been formed
and the links between the two Lodges have been strengthened."
Activities have included inter-Lodge competitions for the
Superintendent's Cup, as well as football, general knowledge
quizzes, pool and relay races and Scripture competitions.
The year started with three sponsored parades in Whitehead,
Greenisland, and Carrickfergus, to get the new Lodges up and
running.
Other leisure pursuits included a 'ghost walk' at Blackhead
Path, a Christmas party and a visit to the senior District's
annual carol service.
The juniors also attended the annual Junior District Scripture
competition, in April, and the Junior District football competition,
in May.
Members have also enjoyed outings to Larne, Portrush and
Randalstown, as well as a guided tour of Windsor Park.
The highlight of the parade calendar was taking part in Carrick's
summer pageant.
The Juniors attended their pageant, and in the interim break,
had a great time visiting the amusements accompanied by senior
brethren and parents.
Brother Smyth said: "Our first year was undoubtedly
an expensive year having to purchase bannerettes, collarettes,
flags and Lodge uniforms.
"We also donated to church services, retirement gifts
and Orange charities. The children did a lot of the fund-raising.
One of the favourites was the pound-a-promise whereby they
promised to perform a task for £1, for example cleaning
their room."
Thanks were extended to the businesses, bands, organisations
and individuals who have supported the Lodges.
If anyone is interested in joining either Junior Lodge, or
having their boys join, they should contact either Superintendent
Bryan Smyth, Carrickfergus, on 0797 9095167, or Superintendent
