Two brothers with very impressive service to their Orange
Lodge and to the Lambeg drumming fraternity have been presented
with gifts to mark their achievements.
Between them, Robert and John Moore have been involved in
Lambeg drumming for more than 100 years.
And the pair each received a presentation of a silver clock
at the monthly meeting of their local Orange Lodge.
Their entire service has been with Gloonan L.O.L. No. 504,
in Ahoghill District, the Lodge which they joined in November
1950.
But John and Robert's drumming days started even before this
when they were heard 'rattling' on a steel barrel with a stone
in each hand.
Even from those early days their 'timing' was of the highest
standard and this quality of drumming has been carried on
right throughout these last 50 years as they have drummed
side by side for the Gloonan Lodge.
On receiving their presentation, the outgoing Worshipful
Master, Brother William Barr, heaped praise on the Moore brothers
for their dedication and enthusiasm that they have shown throughout
this time.
But more importantly than that, this was not a retirement
gift, because the Moore brothers are still drumming as strongly
and competently as they have ever done.
Thus, the Gloonan Lodge can look forward to drumming at its
best for a few more years yet, and with young men coming up
in the ranks, this expertise can be passed on, and Lambeg
drumming will resound from out amongst the hedgerows on the
'Twelfth' morning for many years to come.
