Ethnic Interest In Orange Cultural Event

Article 4 ~ April 2005

Members of the Indian community were among those who took up an invitation from the Orange Institution to visit Orange halls in Belfast.

And they were interested to view Orange sashes made in India during their visit!

The sashes were made for Rising Sons of India L.O.L. No. 1300, Sandy Row District and the banner of the lodge was also displayed during a visit to Sandy Row Orange Hall.

Brethren from the Sandy Row district put on a tremendous display for the occasion, with many banners displayed for visitors.

Meanwhile, in East Belfast Ballymacarrett Orange Hall also put on a display for invited guests from Cregagh Primary School.

Nearby murals in Thorndyke Street were also highlighted for those taking part in the Community Relations' event.

The event was organised by the education officer for the Institution, Brother David Scott, and was a highly successful introduction to the Orange tradition for the groups concerned.
