The mobile exhibition "Battles Beyond the Boyne"
became the focal point at a very unique exhibition in Louth
County Museum, Dundalk, organised by four mature students
based at Dundalk Institute of Technology during the month
of April.
The project title, Cultural Identity - Changing Perceptions,
was set up by the students as part of their course and organised
a series of events designed to explore attitudes towards cultural
diversity and different cultural identities in Ireland today.
The exhibition included other artefacts and memorabilia associated
with Orangeism, including banners and sashes. Included in
the exhibition a photographic exhibition by photographer Sean
Casey on the theme of "The Twelfth".
The British Ambassador Stewart Eldon officially opened the
event and said: "The understanding of traditions was
so important to the building of bridges to break down the
barriers between communities".
Also in attendance was the Grand Master, Worshipful Brother
Robert Saulters, who expressed his delight at being present
at the official opening, stating "the exhibition is designed
to provide an insight into the history and traditions of the
order, and to explain the significance of Orangeism in the
cultural development of Ireland".
