The Orange Order remains a power for good in this society,
educationally, spiritually, culturally and socially. There
are its works of charity and good neighbourliness regardless
of creed, and the very considerable contributions of Orangemen
to church, local government and government. That we need to
work harder and do better in the cause of Christ and Christian
values by standing firm for Christian faith and conduct is
a task to be shared by all who call themselves Christians.
The strong witness of the Order to Protestantism positively
is much needed in days when the churches are loosing influence
and effectiveness to the great detriment of this society.
We have evidence constantly of the lowering standards of behaviour
people with people in every walk of life. We deeply deplore
the loss of so much that we enjoyed simply and peaceably in
other days as we hear and see day and daily the ill treatment
and cruelty visited on so many and every kind of criminality
and lawlessness by which criminals plumb the very depths of
depraved humanity. We need more than anything a turning of
people to Christ and Christian values of conduct. The Orange
Institution must make its goodly presence felt in every attempt
made with the betterment of this society as its primary purpose.
