The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland would reiterate their concern
at the continuing denial of civil liberties by the Parades
Commission.
It is regrettable that with the visit of President Clinton,
Her Majesty's Government failed to realise the irony of hosting
the leader of a country whose constitution places so much
emphasis on freedom including freedom of movement and freedom
of assembly.
In the last number of days Parades by the Royal Black Institution,
have had conditions imposed, a local band has been denied
the right to parade in their village and Portadown District
L.O.L. No.1 have again been denied the right to return their
traditional route from Drumcree Parish Church.
The Parades Commission has no credibility and the Government
must act immediately to restore basic civil rights to the
people of this part of the United Kingdom.
