The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, has stated in an initial
response to the announcement that the Government are "taking
stock of the experience of the last two years" with reference
to the Parades Commission.
The Grand Lodge and in particular its senior Officers on
behalf of the Institution have, for two years, been making
the case that the Parades Commission have been part of the
problem rather than part of the solution.
We welcome the fact that there appears to be some recognition
on the part of Government that Grand Lodge was correct in
its assessment. However we are conscious that a review in
itself is meaningless unless it is far ranging and takes on
board the need for a change in legislation. A mere change
in personnel is not what is required.
We have continually been pressing Goverment for change and
we will undoubtedly take the opportunity of the review to
again present the case for civil liberty.
