The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland at its meeting last Saturday
expressed dismay at the current crisis at Harland and Wolff
Shipyard.
Shipbuilding has been synonymous with Belfast as well as
being an important factor in the economy of the city and indeed
that of Northern Ireland.
We urge Her Majesty's Government to take all necessary action
to allow Harland and Wolff to overcome this problem in the
short term and enable them to again grow and prosper.
We are confident that the skill of the workforce is second
to none but "the yard" must be given the support
and resources to allow it to realistically compete in the
market place.
