The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland has expressed regret and
amazement at the fact that its commitment to community life
in Northern Ireland has not been recognized through appointment
to the Civic Forum.
Whilst individuals who are members of the Orange Institution
have been nominated (and we wish them well in their appointments)
the simple fact is that the Orange Order as a body has been
overlooked.
It appears to us to be totally incredulous that the Prime
Minister, Rt.Hon. Tony Blair M.P., can recognize the important
role of the Orange Order and the contribution it makes to
the life of society in Northern Ireland whilst those responsible
for the appointments to the Civic Forum can not.
