The Zulus are coming
to County Down!
A group of South African Zulus musicians and dancers will
be one of the star attractions at two forthcoming Orange Order
events at Dromore and Dollingstown.
Hundreds of local residents are expected to turn out and
watch the Mighty Zulu Nation a costume
pageant explaining the history and background of the warrior
tribe whose bravery and fighting skills stunned the British
Army in the late 19th Century.
The 20-strong band of Zulu students will attend the Lower
Iveagh Districts mini-Twelfth Orange Order
festival at Dromore this Saturday (June 29th) evening. They
will also accompany Listullycurran Truth Defenders Orange
Lodge as they parade to the field at Dollingstown for the
annual July 12 festival.
An Orange Order spokesman said the students would provide
a fascinating insight into a people who have fought long and
hard to preserve their proud culture and traditions.
Orangemen have always believed that cultural and ethnic
diversity should be protected and celebrated and the Order
is delighted to welcome the Zulus to County Down. Northern
Ireland has much to learn from the Rainbow Nation of South
Africa and its tolerance and respect for people of different
backgrounds and traditions.
