The Orange Order has sent a message of solidarity and good
wishes to British servicemen and women serving in the war
in Iraq.
The Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, meeting in Belfast last
Saturday, called on the people of Northern Ireland to get
fully behind the war effort to rid Iraq of the evil dictator
Saddam Hussein and it praised the outstanding contribution
made by the Royal Irish Regiment, the Irish Guards and the
Territorial Army (Royal Irish Rangers) in the front line of
battle.
"The gallantry again shown by Ulster regiments of our
Army follows in a long and proud tradition of soldiering in
this part of the United Kingdom and our feelings are with
the families of the servicemen and women back home as they
wait for news from the front of their loved ones.
"We look forward to a speedy conclusion to this war
and warmly commend both the American and British administrations
for their initiative to free the people of Iraq from the tyranny
of a ruthless dictator."
