The ruling body of the Orange Order has expressed its sympathy
with those who lost loved ones in the recent terrorist attacks
in Madrid.
At a recent meeting of the Grand Lodge of Ireland it prayed
for those who had suffered in Madrid and those families who
were bereaved. It also remembered and expressed sympathy with
those suffering in Kosova as a result of ethnic violence.
A spokesman for the Grand Lodge of Ireland said, "Looking
back at our recent history here in Northern Ireland gives
us a greater insight into the suffering of ordinary people
whose lives are interrupted by violent acts. Here in the province
we have experienced the horror of an armed struggle which
brought violence to the door of many people".
"In reporting terrorist acts the total number of dead
and injured become the news, but here in Northern Ireland
we know from first hand experience that behind each and every
one of these statistics there is a family whose lives have
changed in a heart beat".
"The Grand Lodge also keeps in its thoughts the members
of the British Army sent to Iraq to try and keep the peace
and help build a better future for the Iraqi people".
