Belfast Orange Leader Appeals For Peace

31 May 2004

Dawson Bailie, Orange County Grand Master of Belfast, has issued the following statement:

"At this time of rising tensions within our communities and as we approach the summer season when many of our traditional parades take place, I appeal to all community, political and paramilitary leaders and their respective organisations to do all in their power to ensure a peaceful outcome to our parades and celebration of our culture and heritage.

"As the Loyal Orange Institution's County Grand Master of Belfast, I would like to thank personally all those who have given us practical assistance and cooperation in the past. For my part I will be doing my utmost to try and ensure that our forthcoming parades are a fitting and peaceful celebration of our culture."
