The Orange Institution has confirmed that it hosted a meeting
today between the Democratic Unionist Party and the Ulster
Unionist Party.
Three representatives of each party were present, headed by
their respective party leaders. The meeting was chaired by
the Grand Master of the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland, Most
Wor. Bro. Robert Saulters.
Those present considered a wide range of issues and both parties
presented proposals, which were discussed.
The Grand Master said that he and his senior officers had
fulfilled their mandate from Grand Lodge to bring the two
parties together, and no further comment will be made at this
stage.
The Orange Order re-iterates that it supports unionist unity
and hopes that this discussion will continue and will prove
fruitful.
