The Orange Order says it is delighted at this afternoon's
humiliating climb down by the Parades Commission in the row
over Lodges rather than individual Orangemen being listed
as organisers on parade forms.
Raymond Spiers, Master of No 6 Ballymacarrett Orange District,
said: "This isn't a case of the Parades Commission showing
flexibility as they claim; the reality is that they have been
sitting on legal advice for several weeks which shows that
we have been completing 11/1 notification forms perfectly
lawfully.
"Once again, the Commission has demonstrated its ineptitude
and total unsuitability to regulate the sensitive issues surrounding
parading. It's time members of this unelected quango that
was deliberately set up to criminalize Protestants did the
decent thing and resigned", said Mr Spiers.
"The officers of No 6 Orange District wish to thank
the unionist community of East Belfast and their elected representatives
for their hard work and support which has forced the Commission
to see sense and accept the legal realities of the situation."
