The County Grand Orange Lodge of Belfast has described the
PSNI's failure to stop nationalist attacks on Orangemen in
the city this afternoon as scandalous.
As the Whiterock parade got underway, nationalists launched
a series of unprovoked attacks on Orangemen at various points
including the Albertbridge Road and the Grosvenor Road.
Orangemen said that when they approached the Grosvenor Road
there was only one police vehicle there and the PSNI was powerless
to protect them.
A spokesman for the Order said: "Yesterday, ACC Duncan
McCausland gave repeated assurances to the public via media
interviews that he had sufficient manpower and resources to
deal with any eventuality that might arise. Clearly Mr. McCausland
is not up to managing the situation and containing nationalists
bent on causing trouble. The PSNI's response to these troublemakers
is both scandalous and pathetic".
