The Orange Order believes an overnight arson attack on Whiterock
Orange Hall was a deliberate attempt to stir up inter-community
tensions in north and west Belfast.
Police are treating last night's attack as malicious. The
intruders used bolt-cutters to break into the hall and set
fire to the kitchen which was badly damaged.
A spokesman for the Order described the attack as premeditated
vandalism designed specifically to provoke Protestants.
"We fear that this attack was intended to stir up things
ahead of tomorrow's Love Ulster People's Rally in Woodvale
Park in which scores of Orangemen will be taking part. If
so, our opponents need to recognise that Orangeism is an integral
part of Protestant culture - and it isn't going to be eradicated
by the Parades Commission, stupid morons armed with petrol
and matches, or anybody else for that matter."
