Brethren of Brampton L.O.L. No.5 near Toronto, are eagerly
looking forward to the 'Twelfth' period, when they will welcome
the members of the Shankill Road Defenders Flute Band who
will be leading them on July 12.
Brampton Lodge is legendary for its hospitality and cordial
welcome to visitors from Northern Ireland and other places
and former Shankill man Bro. Noel Fitzgerald says they are
looking forward to the visit of the Defenders band.
"It will be quite an undertaking for the Lodge to host
such a large group of folks from Northern Ireland, but it
is a labour of love for us," he said. "Everyone
will be pulling out the stops to ensure that the band members
really enjoy themselves, and when they leave Brampton and
Canada, they will bring back happy memories with them to Northern
Ireland," he said.
Many of the Brampton brethren were born in Belfast and other
parts of Northern Ireland, and the Lodge maintains very close
ties with the province.
Brampton L.O.L. No.5 has paraded in Northern Ireland on three
occasions during the past decade. The first visit was in 1995
when the then Worshipful Master Bro. Tom Gilmore led the Lodge
to the Field at Edenderry with Ballymacarrett District L.O.L.
No.6.
